Employment Law
Employment law covers the rights of employers and employees. Employment law covers legal issues as diverse as discrimination, wrongful termination, wages and taxation, and workplace safety. Many of these issues are governed by applicable federal and state law. But, where the employment relationship is based on a valid contract entered into by the employer and the employee, state contract law alone may dictate the rights and duties of the parties.
An Employee cannot be discriminated against based on age, race, gender, national origin or religious preference. Employees also have the right to be free from any type of harassment. Employees also must be given privacy and a safe work place.
There are a host of Federal laws that protect Employees including:
- Title VII
- Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
- Fair Labor Standards Act
- Family and Medical Leave Act
I represent employers and employees in federal and state courts as well as in various government agencies. I also strive to ensure employers do not run afoul of the various state and federal laws by offering preventive law efforts. My goal is to help employers and employees become educated on the law in an effort to avoid or reduce litigation.
